The Agogo Traditional Council has formally notified the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of the passing of Agogomanhene Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, paying a courtesy visit to the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at their headquarters in Accra on May 6, 2026.

During the visit, the delegation, led by representatives of the Agogo Traditional Council, informed the NDC leadership of the chief’s demise and extended an invitation to attend the 40-day observance ceremony scheduled for June 4, 2026.

This follows an earlier visit by a separate delegation from the council, which informed Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang of the chief’s passing.

Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong was a respected traditional ruler in the Ashanti Region, and his passing is being mourned by the community.

The 40-day observance is a significant Akan funeral tradition, marking the official announcement of the chief’s death and the beginning of mourning rites.

The Agogo Traditional Area, part of the Asante Kingdom, plays a vital role in cultural and local governance affairs in the Ashanti Region. The NDC has been invited to join the community in paying their respects to the late Agogomanhene.
