Kofi Asante has been confirmed as the new Berekum Manhene, following a customary selection process overseen by the traditional authorities of Berekum manhene.

Speaking to the media, the Berekum Twafohene, Osabarima Amotima Gyan II, said Kofi Asante was chosen by the Berekum Manhemaa, Nana Akosua Amiahene, from among four royals who had expressed interest in the stool.

The selection was made in line with Asante customary procedures for filling a vacant traditional stool.
The Twafohene explained that the decision has since been presented to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for ratification. His Royal Majesty has tasked the Berekum delegation to observe the required customary rites and return for the final traditional rites as prescribed by custom.
The confirmation of a new chief in Berekum marks an important step in maintaining traditional governance and continuity within the area.

Under Asante customary law, the selection of a chief by the queen mother and royal family must be approved and finalized through rites performed at the Manhyia Palace.

Residents of Berekum are expected to witness the completion of the customary processes in the coming days, after which the new Berekum Manhene will be formally introduced to the community.
The Berekum stool remains one of the traditional divisions within Asanteman, with its chief serving as a sub-chief under the authority of the Asantehene and the Golden Stool.
