The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has charged Ghanaians to use this year’s National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day to reflect on the sacrifice, vision, and foresight of the nation’s forefathers who laid the foundation for Ghana’s institutions, sovereignty, and cultural heritage.
Dr. Amoakohene made the call during the Ashanti Region’s National Thanksgiving and Prayer Service held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
Addressing clergy, government officials, traditional leaders, students and citizens at the service, the Regional Minister said the day should be more than a religious gathering. It must be a moment of national introspection.
“Our forefathers built institutions, protected our sovereignty and preserved our rich cultural heritage,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
“Our forefathers laid the foundation upon which today’s leaders are continuing to build.”
He emphasized that the sacrifices made by past generations were driven by a long-term vision, not short-term gain.
“Our forefathers protected our rivers, protected our forests, our work lands, and it’s not that they didn’t need money, but rather they thought about the future generations. Let us learn from it,” he said.
A Call for Stewardship and Patriotism
Dr. Amoakohene urged citizens and leaders to emulate that sense of responsibility by protecting natural resources, strengthening institutions, and prioritizing the national interest over personal gain.
He said Ghana’s progress will depend on the same spirit of sacrifice and foresight that guided the country’s founders.
The Ashanti Regional Minister also commended President John Dramani Mahama for instituting the National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day.
He thanked H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for constituting this day for the nation, describing it as a unifying platform for Ghanaians to seek God’s guidance and rededicate themselves to nation-building.
The Ashanti Region’s service forms part of nationwide activities marking the National Thanksgiving and Prayer Day, which brings together citizens across faiths and backgrounds to pray for peace, unity, and development.
