The Electoral Commission has rejected a new electoral album submitted by Hon. Tweneboah Forkuo, Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta Constituency, deepening an internal dispute over voter register management in the constituency.
The rejection means Manso Nkwanta remains the only constituency in the area still using the old electoral album for party processes.
Dispute Over Album Verification Process
According to party sources, the controversy began when the MP and his team did not allow the constituency chairman and executives to complete the album verification process.
It is alleged that Hon. Forkuo wanted to proceed with the process in a manner that would leave him unopposed, a move the constituency executives did not agree to.
Following engagements among stakeholders, all parties initially reached an agreement to use the old album for the upcoming voting process to avoid further disruption.
New Album Submission Rejected
However, sources at the constituency say the MP later submitted a new album directly to the Manso Nkwanta office of the Electoral Commission.
The EC Chairperson reviewed the submission and rejected it, citing procedural breaches and the lack of consensus with the constituency executives.
With the rejection, the Commission has directed that the constituency continue with the previously agreed old album until a proper, verified register is produced in accordance with party and EC guidelines.
Tensions Ahead of Internal Elections
The development comes ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s constituency executive elections scheduled across the country in the coming days.
Party insiders say the dispute reflects broader tensions over control of the delegate album, which determines who votes in internal elections.
Some executives in Manso Nkwanta expressed concern that the disagreement could affect unity in the constituency if not resolved quickly.
“We agreed as a house to use the old album so we can move forward peacefully. The focus now should be on organizing and winning elections, not fighting over the register,” one executive stated.
Attempts to reach Hon. Forkuo for comment on the EC’s decision were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The NPP’s regional leadership is expected to intervene to ensure the constituency completes a proper verification exercise and presents a new album that has the approval of both the executives and the EC.
The Electoral Commission has reiterated that all constituencies must follow due process in the compilation and verification of electoral albums to ensure credibility and fairness in internal party elections.
