Five years ago, her future looked bleak. Today, she stands as a proud fashion designer, full of hope and dignity.

This is the inspiring story of Beatrice Agyei, whose life was changed by a single act of responsible journalism and extraordinary compassion.

In 2021, OTEC FM journalist, Kwame Agyenim Boateng, brought to national attention the heartbreaking story of Beatrice Agyei, then a 17-year-old first-year student of Offinso Namon Senior High School.

Beatrice had lost her mother and, while in SHS One, gave birth to twins. With no support system to care for the babies, the young mother was forced to strap her twins to her back to school every day breastfeeding and nursing them between classes while struggling to keep up with her studies.

The story, which aired on OTEC FM, touched many hearts across the Ashanti Region and beyond.
GH¢60,000 Support Fund Raised
Touched by her plight, the then Headmistress of Offinso Namong SHS together with the school’s Administrative Officer, Mr. Appiah Emmanuel, and journalist Kwame Agyenim Boateng, initiated a support fund for the young mother.
Through the generosity of benevolent listeners and individuals, about GH¢60,000 was raised. The amount was used to cater for the upkeep of Beatrice and her twins, providing them with food, clothing, medical care and other essentials to give them a decent life while she continued her education.

But that was only the beginning of her turnaround.
Heavenly Gift of Joy Foundation Steps In
Following OTEC FM’s report, the Heavenly Gift of Joy Foundation, a non-governmental organization established and solely funded by philanthropist Mrs. Veronica Theresa Casely-Hayford Benson, took up Beatrice’s case as a special project.
In a remarkable show of compassion, Mrs. Casely-Hayford Benson single-handedly constructed and fully furnished a one-bedroom self-contained apartment for Beatrice and her twins, giving them a safe and decent place to live.

Beyond shelter, the Foundation took full responsibility for the family’s total upkeep feeding, healthcare, and Beatrice’s educational expenses until she successfully completed her Senior High School education.
After her graduation, the Foundation went a step further to secure her future by enrolling her in a professional fashion school to study Fashion Design and Event Management.
A New Life Of Dignity
Five years after that intervention, Beatrice Agyei has completed her training with flying colours. From a teenage mother who sat in a classroom with babies on her back, uncertain of what tomorrow would bring, she is now a skilled, certified fashion designer capable of earning a decent living and taking care of her children with dignity.
Her transformation is described by many as nothing short of a miracle a testament to what compassion can do.
Her journey stands as a powerful reminder of the impact of development-focused journalism and the life-changing power of kindness, as demonstrated by Mrs. Veronica Theresa Casely-Hayford Benson, whose generosity has given Beatrice and her twins a true second chance at life.
