Dr. Frank Amoakohene Pledges Stronger Focus on Rights, Peace and Development in Talks with Amnesty International

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has reiterated the region’s commitment to upholding good governance, human rights, peace, and sustainable development following a high-level engagement with the leadership of Amnesty International.

The meeting, held at the Minister’s office on Monday morning, brought together regional authorities and representatives of the human rights organization to discuss key issues affecting the Ashanti Region.

Discussions centered on governance, security, the protection of fundamental freedoms, and strategies for advancing inclusive development.

Speaking after the engagement, Dr. Amoakohene said the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council remains dedicated to safeguarding the rights of citizens while maintaining a secure and peaceful environment conducive to development.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that every citizen’s rights are protected and that the region continues to provide a stable foundation for social and economic progress,” he stated.

“This requires constant dialogue, transparency, and cooperation with institutions that share our commitment to accountability.”

The Minister further emphasized the government’s openness to working with civil society organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders whose work contributes to national growth and the welfare of the people.

He noted that partnerships of this nature are vital for strengthening public trust and improving service delivery across the region.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ashanti Regional administration to deepen collaboration with key institutions focused on accountability, social justice, and inclusive development in Ghana.

Officials say such interactions provide an avenue to identify challenges, share best practices, and align regional initiatives with national and international human rights standards.

Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, regularly engages with government bodies across Ghana to promote respect for fundamental rights and to monitor the implementation of related policies.
