The Women Organiser contest in the Oforikrom Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been brought to a standstill following allegations of tampering with the official constituency register, resulting in the disqualification of leading contender, Mrs. Afia Ossei Brayie.

Mrs. Brayie, widely regarded as the frontrunner in the race against the incumbent Women Organiser, was disqualified on grounds of ineligibility a decision that has since triggered agitation and controversy among the party’s grassroots in Oforikrom.

The development forced a petition to the Elections Appeal Committee of the party for a review.

Speaking to journalists after a crucial meeting of the Appeal Committee, a Constituency Executive Member, Mr. Maclean Kusodzi, disclosed that the Committee after examining all the evidence presented, has found substantial merit in Mrs. Brayie’s appeal.
According to Mr. Kusodzi, Mrs. Afia Ossei Brayie produced concrete documentary proof of her membership and commitment to the party, including official receipts of party dues paid consistently from 2020 to 2024, which confirms her status as a member in good standing and qualifies her to contest any party position.

“With all the evidence including receipts of dues paid by Mrs. Afia Ossei Brayie from 2020-2024, the Appeal Committee members unanimously accepted her case, though she hasn’t been officially cleared yet,” Mr. Kusodzi stated.
He further revealed that in the interest of fairness and natural justice, the Committee has given the opposing side, led by the incumbent candidate, 24 hours to produce credible evidence to justify why Mrs. Brayie should not be approved to contest.

Mr. Kusodzi stressed that failure by the other side to provide any counter-evidence within the 24-hour ultimatum will compel the Committee to fully reinstate Mrs. Afia Ossei Brayie into the race.

Adding to his statement, he clarified that as it stands now, no candidacy has been officially approved for the Women Organiser position in Oforikrom, as the entire process has been put on hold pending the final determination of the appeal.
Meanwhile, the halt of the Women Organiser candidacy has heightened tensions in the constituency, with many party faithful and branch executives calling on the regional and national leadership to intervene and ensure transparency, fairness and justice in the process to protect party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
