The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a formal investigation into allegations that a Chief Inspector serving within the region has been operating unauthorised wooden structures and renting them out to commercial sex workers.
The probe was made public in a press statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026 by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi.
Allegations Centered At Asafo BB
According to the statement signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Supt. Godwin Ahianyo, the illegal structures in question are reportedly located at Asafo BB, a suburb in Kumasi.
The Command indicated that the Chief Inspector is alleged to have constructed and leased the wooden structures for use by commercial sex workers, in violation of law and police regulations.
“The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to assure the public that further developments following the investigations will be communicated,” the statement read.
Police Emphasize Professional Standards
The Ashanti Regional Police Command stressed that it does not condone misconduct by any of its personnel and remains committed to upholding the law and professional ethics within the service.
Supt. Ahianyo noted that the Command will conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter and take appropriate disciplinary and legal action where necessary.
“The Ghana Police Service holds all officers to the highest standards of conduct. Any officer found to have engaged in activities contrary to the law will be dealt with in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
Residents in the Asafo BB area have in recent months raised concerns about the proliferation of unauthorized structures and related social vices. Some community members welcomed the police decision to investigate, saying it demonstrates a commitment to accountability.
The area, known for its bustling commercial activity, has often been cited in discussions about urban disorder and public safety in Kumasi.

The Regional Police Command said investigators have already begun gathering evidence and interviewing relevant persons as part of the inquiry.
