The Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Martin Ameyaw, has urged the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to exercise utmost care, diligence and patience in the selection of his Running Mate ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued in Kumasi, Mr. Ameyaw described the appointment of a Running Mate as one of the most consequential decisions that could significantly influence Dr. Bawumia’s journey toward becoming President of the Republic of Ghana.
According to him, the choice of a running mate goes beyond mere political symbolism; it is a strategic decision that will shape the party’s campaign message, regional balance, and overall electoral fortunes.
“The appointment of a Running Mate is a decision that could significantly influence Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s journey toward becoming President of the Republic of Ghana. Therefore, serious care and careful consideration must be taken in making this important decision,” Mr. Ameyaw stated.
Ashanti Region Has Qualified Personalities
Touching on the ongoing public debate over where the Running Mate should come from, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer noted that the Ashanti Region, which remains the stronghold and heartbeat of the NPP, is blessed with many party stalwarts who are eminently qualified to occupy the position.
He stressed the need for Dr. Bawumia to carefully consider all available options and settle on a candidate who embodies loyalty, humility, effective communication skills, and broad acceptability.
“There is a need for the Presidential Candidate to carefully consider all options and choose someone who is loyal, a good communicator, humble, acceptable by all without RESERVATIONS and a LIBERAL politician. In this case, the person will become a vote-making machine in Ashanti and the Middle Belt where the NPP has a lot of parliamentary seats and presidential votes,” he explained.
Mr. Ameyaw added that beyond traditional politicians, Dr. Bawumia may also consider a non-political personality who is diligent, kind, honest, and genuinely committed to national service, as the ultimate goal is to select a partner who complements his vision and appeals to the Ghanaian electorate.
No Pressure Should Influence The Decision
The Youth Organizer further called on party faithful and interest groups to desist from mounting undue pressure on the flagbearer in an attempt to influence the choice of Running Mate.
He emphasized that while suggestions and lobbying are normal in party politics, the final decision must be left to Dr. Bawumia himself to choose who he believes is best suited to partner him to secure victory.
“I therefore urge the Presidential Candidate to take his time in making this important decision and in determining the appropriate time to unveil his Running Mate.
This is a crucial decision, and ultimately, he has the right to choose the person he believes is best suited for the role. NO AMOUNT OF PRESSURE SHOULD MAKE HIM CHOOSE WRONGLY,” he cautioned.
Mr. Ameyaw reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Ashanti Region for Dr. Bawumia, assuring him that the region stands solidly behind him as he makes what he described as a defining decision for the future of the party and the country.
“The Ashanti Region stands solidly with you as you make this important decision. TOGETHER, WE SHALL RISE!” he concluded.
