The incoming Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has called on Ghanaians to set aside political differences and unite against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Sunday, May 10, during a visit to Heaven Seekers Ministry in Kumasi where he joined congregants to mark Mother’s Day, Mr. Appiah described galamsey as a national crisis that demands immediate and collective action.

He argued that the environmental damage caused by illegal mining should not be framed along party lines, warning that the consequences threaten the future of the entire country.

“The fight against galamsey is not about the NPP or the NDC. It is about Ghana,” he told the congregation.
Mr. Appiah expressed concern over the continued destruction of farmlands, pollution of water bodies, and the risks posed to communities across the country.
He stressed that addressing the problem would require more than policy and enforcement, calling for national unity and spiritual support.

“This fight demands divine intervention,” he said, urging citizens to back efforts aimed at protecting Ghana’s natural resources.
Touching on his bid for the Ashanti Regional NPP chairmanship, COKA pledged to lead the party with humility, dedication, and integrity if elected by delegates. He said his vision includes strengthening party structures while encouraging active civic engagement on issues of national importance such as environmental protection.
The visit to Heaven Seekers Ministry formed part of his ongoing engagements with religious and community groups across the Ashanti Region ahead of the party’s regional elections.
