GHANA MOURNS: ACTOR AND COMEDIAN SETH KWAME DZOKOTO, AKA JUDGE KOBOO, DIES AT 51 AFTER COLLAPSING ON LIVE RADIO

Ghana’s entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned actor, comedian and broadcaster, Seth Kwame Dzokoto, popularly known as Judge Koboo.

The 51-year-old entertainer died on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after collapsing during a live radio discussion on Owass FM / Owass Radio in Tarkwa in the Western Region.

According to reports, Dzokoto was appearing as a panellist on the station’s morning show when he suddenly collapsed in the early hours of Thursday. He was rushed to a hospital in Tarkwa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His death was confirmed by the Western Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kirk Mensah, who said: “Our comrade Kwame Dzokoto of the Efiewura and Edziban fame on a panel discussion on Owass Radio in Tarkwa collapsed and pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital”.

A livestream of the show available on Owass FM’s Facebook page showed the actor in the latter part of the stream seemingly struggling for breath as he handed over a bottle of water to another guest before the camera went shaky and the broadcast was cut off.

Health Concerns Before His Death

His death comes barely weeks after photographs showing him looking unwell circulated widely on social media, sparking concerns about his health.

In September 2026, Dzokoto had publicly dismissed rumours of his death after concerns about his health. Speaking on B.E. TV, he said “I’m not dead,” explaining he was battling high blood pressure and diabetes and had undergone surgery outside the country with support from businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

Dzokoto became a household name for his role as Judge Koboo in the popular TV series Efiewura and as host of TV3’s food and tourism programme Edziban, which explored Ghanaian cuisine. He also featured in Osumesi and worked as a radio presenter with Skyy Power FM in Takoradi and Hello FM in Kumasi.

He began his media career in Tarkwa at Dynamite FM before moving to Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, where he hosted the popular mid-morning show “Odam Sokoo.” His lively style and comic timing made him a household name in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.

As host of Edziban, he brought local eateries and Ghanaian dishes to television audiences, combining humour with an exploration of the country’s food culture. The programme earned a CIMG Television Programme of the Year award.

Beyond entertainment, he was a politician. He contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC in the 2016 general elections.

Tributes and Awaiting Details

Further details, including official confirmation from family and burial arrangements, are yet to be announced.

News of his passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues and political associates who remember him for his versatility and distinctive style that helped him build a following among television and radio audiences across the country.
