JUABEN SHS OLD STUDENTS PRESIDENT ZAKARIAH ABDULAI RESIGNS; VICE PRESIDENT STEPHEN ACHEAMPONG TAKES OVER AS ACTING PRESIDENT

The President of the Juaben Senior High School Old Students Association (JUASS), Mr. Zakariah Abdulai, has resigned from his position as President of the Association.

Mr. Abdulai, who also serves as the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), tendered his resignation letter to the Executive Committee on 15th October, 2027, according to an official communication issued to all members of the Association.

The communication, which was signed by the leadership of JUASS and sighted by this portal, did not give extensive details on the reasons for his decision, but referenced “circumstances surrounding Mr Zakariah’s resignation.”

According to the statement, following receipt of the letter, the Executive Committee and the Council of Elders of the Association, chaired by Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, convened an emergency meeting on Sunday, 18th October, 2026, to deliberate on the matter.

The statement noted that after deliberations, the meeting decided to accept the resignation request despite the constitutional requirement for one month’s advance notice.

“At its emergency meeting on Sunday, 18th October 2026, the Executive Committee and the Council of Elders, chaired by Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, deliberated on the letter and decided to accept the resignation request despite the constitution’s requirement for one month’s advance notice, due to the circumstances surrounding Mr Zakariah’s resignation,” the statement said.

Following the acceptance of his resignation, the Association has declared the office of the President vacant in line with its constitution.

In the interim, the Vice President, Mr. Stephen Acheampong, will serve as Acting President to ensure continuity of leadership and the smooth running of the Association’s affairs during the transitional period.

The leadership further assured members that they will be duly informed of the modalities for the election of a substantive new President in accordance with the provisions of the JUASS constitution.

The Executive Committee expressed appreciation to Mr. Abdulai for his service to the Association and called on all members to remain united and committed to the welfare and development agenda of their alma mater.

Juaben Senior High School, located in the Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region, is one of the leading second-cycle institutions in the region, with a vibrant old students association that continues to play a key role in supporting infrastructural development, student welfare and academic excellence.

Meanwhile, some flyers circulating on social media have linked Mr. Abdulai’s resignation to alleged developments at Obuasi SHTS. As of the time of filing this report, neither the JUASS official statement nor any competent state institution has confirmed those claims, and this portal has not independently verified any allegation of misconduct against him.
