The Founder and Leader of Pillar of Zion Church International, Evangelist Akwasi Awuah, has expressed concern over what he describes as the growing commercialization of gospel music ministry by some church instrumentalists and singers.

Speaking on Day 4 of a week-long programme dubbed “Heaven Is A Must”, organized by Eternal Liberty Ministry (E.L.I.M.) at Kwadaso Estate in Kumasi, Evangelist Awuah said he pities instrumentalists whose only motivation for being in church is monetary gain and not genuine service to God.

Sharing his personal encounters, Evangelist Awuah said he has observed that many instrumentalists, immediately after they are done with praise and worship, offering and solo ministrations, move outside the auditorium and show no interest in the rest of the service.

“I pity church instrumentalists because all they look for is their payment but not part of the service,” he stated.

He said the situation is even worse among some singers who now see singing in church as a profession for making money, forgetting that it is God who gave them the gift and talent to help in the ministry.
“God doesn’t care about them because they’re not part of the ministry but rather chase for payment. Their language is, if you don’t pay us, we won’t play or sing,” he lamented.

According to Evangelist Awuah, he has never seen in his life an instrumentalist who became a billionaire through charging churches for playing instruments.
He further criticized the growing trend where gospel singers now confer on themselves the title “Ministers of God” while still living lives that do not reflect genuine conversion.
“You are a sinner saved by God, how much did you pay for that divine salvation?” he quizzed.
Evangelist Awuah warned that when instrumentalists and singers claim music is just their profession, they risk becoming like Lucifer, who also saw music as his profession.
“Let God himself touch the pastor’s heart to raise money for you. Don’t demand it as a right,” he advised.
He concluded by stating that many of such singers end up miserably because they never truly gave their lives to Christ, but only used their talent for financial gain.
The “Heaven Is A Must” programme by E.L.I.M. continues at Kwadaso Estate with hundreds of believers in attendance.
