The Leading Telecom Gaint,MTN Ghana Foundation has commissioned a state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centre at New Asafo M/A Basic School in Kumasi, in a major investment aimed at expanding access to quality digital education and closing the technology gap in underserved communities.
The project, delivered at a cost of more than GH¢900,000, involved the complete refurbishment of the school’s old ICT laboratory into a modern STEM facility. It is expected to provide pupils with hands-on exposure to technology, robotics, and digital learning tools needed to thrive in the 21st century economy.
Facility To Strengthen Practical STEM Learning
The newly commissioned centre is fully equipped with 35 desktop computers, robotics kits, interactive learning tools, and other digital resources designed to support practical teaching and learning in STEM subjects.
According to the Foundation, the upgrade moves the school beyond theory-based ICT lessons to an environment where pupils can experiment, build, and innovate through practical application.
Senior Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mr. Robert Kuzoe, who commissioned the facility, said the investment forms part of the Foundation’s broader strategy to promote digital inclusion and improve learning outcomes across the country.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to access quality digital education, irrespective of where they live,” Mr. Kuzoe stated. “Through this investment, we are equipping pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become innovators, creators and future technology leaders.”
He noted that as a technology-driven company, MTN Ghana recognizes the critical role of digital literacy in national development and remains committed to investing in infrastructure that prepares young people for the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Mr. Kuzoe disclosed that the New Asafo STEM Centre is one of several educational interventions by the MTN Ghana Foundation aimed at improving education delivery and promoting innovation in schools nationwide.
He appealed to school authorities, teachers and pupils to ensure the facility is properly maintained and used to benefit both current and future generations.
“An Investment In Ghana’s Future Human Capital”
General Manager for MTN Ghana’s Northern Business District, Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, described the project as a strategic investment in Ghana’s human capital.
He said the Foundation identified the need for the intervention after assessing the school’s deteriorated ICT infrastructure and recognizing the gap in practical STEM education.
According to Mr. Mingle, the centre represents more than an upgraded computer lab.
“This facility provides an environment where pupils can develop critical thinking, creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning,” he explained. “It is about giving children the tools to compete globally.”
He reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting communities through sustainable educational initiatives that drive digital inclusion and technological advancement.
School Authorities Hail “Life-Changing” Intervention
Headmaster of New Asafo M/A Basic School, Mr. Gabriel Antwi, expressed appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation, describing the project as a “life-changing investment” for the pupils.
He recalled that the school’s former ICT laboratory was in poor condition and lacked functional computers, making it difficult to conduct practical ICT lessons and limiting students’ exposure to modern technology.
“The transformation of our old facility into a modern STEM Centre marks a new chapter in the history of this school,” Mr. Antwi said. “It will significantly improve digital literacy, teaching, learning and academic performance.”
He assured the Foundation that the school will maintain the facility diligently and ensure pupils fully utilize the centre to develop the technological competencies required to compete in an increasingly digital world.

The commissioning of the STEM Centre underscores the MTN Ghana Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting quality education and empowering Ghanaian children with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the country’s socio-economic development.
Since its establishment in 2007, the MTN Ghana Foundation has implemented 166 major projects across the country in Health, Education and Economic Empowerment, with education remaining one of its flagship focus areas.
