The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to equipping Ghanaians with digital and coding skills after touring selected training centres under the One Million Coders Program (OMCP) in the Greater Accra Region.
The monitoring visit on Wednesday formed part of efforts to assess quality delivery and operational readiness across the programme’s centres.
The Minister visited the Accra College of Education in Ayawaso West, Gbegbeise JHS in Ablekuma West, and the Mamprobi Community Information Centre (CIC) in Ablekuma South.
At each site, Hon. Sam George engaged directly with trainees, facilitators, and coordinators to gain first-hand insight into the learning experience, challenges, and progress being made under the initiative.
He also reviewed infrastructure, internet connectivity, and the centres’ capacity to support both in-person and online training.
Addressing participants, the Minister described the One Million Coders Program as a cornerstone of Ghana’s digital transformation agenda, aimed at ensuring no citizen is left behind in the global shift toward a technology-driven economy.
“This programme is about creating opportunities,” he said. “We are building a future where young people across the country have access to the digital skills they need to compete globally and contribute meaningfully to national development.”
Hon. Sam George commended facilitators for their dedication and noted the enthusiasm among trainees. He assured participants that government remains responsive to feedback and is committed to continuously improving the programme’s delivery and reach.
Launched as a flagship initiative of the Ministry, the One Million Coders Program is being implemented in partnership with technology firms and training institutions to provide accessible, flexible, and inclusive digital skills training across all 16 regions of Ghana.
The Ministry said the monitoring exercise will continue in other regions as it intensifies efforts to scale up the programme and deepen its impact nationwide.
