Zionite CEO Urges Ghanaians To Invest In Land Instead Of “Spending On Pizza”

The Chief Executive Officer of Zionite Real Estates, Mr. Abdulai Sakra, has called on Ghanaians to change their spending habits and prioritize investment in land rather than on consumables.

Mr. Sakra made the call during a public engagement on housing and property ownership, where he expressed concern over what he described as a growing preference for short-term spending over long-term investment.

Stop Spending, Start Investing

According to the CEO, many Ghanaians are choosing instant gratification such as buying pizza and other non-essentials over acquiring land that can secure their future.

“We have to stop spending and rather invest in land,” Mr. Sakra stated. “Ghanaians have chosen pizza over acquiring of land. The little money we spend on unnecessary things, if invested, can help us own our own house.”

He argued that consistently channeling small amounts of disposable income into land acquisition can, over time, help individuals build homes and achieve financial independence.

Renting Cited As A Major National Challenge

Mr. Sakra noted that renting continues to drain the finances of many households across the country.

“The renting of rooms and houses takes most of our money,” he said. “But we’ve forgotten to invest that same money into something that will benefit us in the long run.”

He described renting issues as “one of Ghana’s number one problems,” pointing out that disputes between landlords and tenants have frequently led to cases being reported to the Rent Control Department.

According to him, the cycle of paying rent year after year without building equity is keeping many Ghanaians trapped in financial insecurity.

Call For A Mindset Shift

The Zionite CEO urged young professionals, workers, and families to adopt a culture of saving and investing, even with modest incomes.

“If we redirect even a small portion of what we spend on food, entertainment, and other non-essentials into land, we can reduce the pressure of renting and move closer to owning our own homes,” he advised.

Mr. Sakra also encouraged real estate companies and financial institutions to create flexible payment plans that will make land acquisition more accessible to ordinary Ghanaians.

Housing Experts Weigh In

Housing analysts have long flagged Ghana’s rental system as a challenge, with many tenants required to pay 1 to 2 years rent in advance. This, experts say, contributes to tension and frequent intervention by rent control authorities.

Property ownership, they note, remains one of the most reliable ways to build wealth and reduce the cost burden on households.

Zionite Real Estates’ Role

Zionite Real Estates, under Mr. Sakra’s leadership, has been involved in making serviced plots and affordable housing options available to Ghanaians both home and abroad.

The company says it is committed to educating the public on the importance of land banking as a path to home ownership and generational wealth.
