The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, KMA, has secured convictions against 12 more people for sanitation offences, with all 12 arraigned and sentenced within 24 hours.

The accused appeared before Prempeh Assembly District Court One on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, where the court, presided over by His Worship Kwaku Ansah Akrofi, found them guilty after they pleaded guilty to offences under Section 56(a and b) of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).

The convicts are Janet Kyeremateng, 56; Benedicta Yaa Adongo, 43; Cloton Parker, 25; Janet Kwarteng, 48; Rebecca Addai Manu, 30; Augustina Botwe, 35; Enock Opoku, 35; Senyo Glah, 45; Patricia Anagbosa, 40; Esther Gyamfi, 40; and Victoria Antwi, 41.
Each was fined 100 penalty units, equivalent to GHS 1,200, or 14 days’ imprisonment in default. The court also bound them over to be of good behaviour for six months.

A second offender, Kadija Dramani, 18, received a reduced penalty due to her age and status as a stranger in the city. She was fined 40 penalty units, equivalent to GHS 480.
Presenting the facts, KMA Prosecutor Enock Nkansah told the court that the offenders were arrested by the Assembly’s Metro Guards for illegally dumping waste at separate locations, including the MTN Roundabout, Otumfuo Roundabout, WAEC, and opposite the Zoo, between May 11 and 12, 2026.
The latest convictions form part of KMA’s ongoing enforcement drive to curb indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis. Assembly officials say the swift prosecution is intended to deter similar offences and reinforce compliance with sanitation bylaws.
KMA has urged residents and traders to use designated refuse collection points and warned that illegal dumping will continue to attract arrest and prosecution.
